For many families in the hill villages of Satara, the start of a school year means choosing between notebooks and household needs. This year our volunteers visited 14 Zilla Parishad schools and handed every child a complete school kit before the first day of term.
Each kit holds six notebooks, a geometry box, pens, pencils and a sturdy school bag. Teachers helped us list the children who needed them most, so no family had to ask.
Head teachers tell us attendance in the first month was the best they have seen in years. Small things, given on time, keep children in class.
Highlights
- 1,200 students in 14 schools
- Kits packed by 60 volunteers in two weekends
- Lists prepared with teachers and parent committees
